Weymouth Area Development Trust

Happy New Year to all our volunteers and supporters!

Firstly a huge THANK YOU to Jane Davies, trusted PA Coordinator. Who was so good that Weymouth College snaffled her up for themselves. Jane saw WADT through all its early start up and was a constant rock through out. Gutted to lose her but happy we will still be seeing her at Weymouth College.

This does mean we are temporarily short staffed right now, apologies in advance if I don’t get back to enquiries very quickly.

Our news for January 2018 is that we have our first two big projects under way.

The first community based project called Connecting People. We are partnering up with Dorset Superfast to training community volunteers as Digital Champions. These Digital Champions will help people one to one with some of the issues that need digital skills, forms online, getting better deals on energy bills, applying for housing or jobs etc. We aim to help 100 people this way and are recruiting volunteers right now see https://news.dorsetforyou.gov.uk/2017/12/11/connecting-people-weymouth-helping-people-get-online/ for more information. If you have those practical digital skills and could help some of your neighbours in Weymouth and Portland go to  https://www.dorsetforyou.gov.uk/article/426272 where there is a link for people to be able to sign up.

Our first economic regeneration project. We have taken some space in the old Ferry Terminal (next door to the Sealife Tower on the Weymouth Peninsular). We have just got the keys over the Christmas break! This is the start of our Starfish Enterprise CoWork space project. There is a lot of work that needs doing before we can open but watch this space. Here is some information about CoWorking  spaces http://www.deskmag.com/en/the-evolution-of-uk-coworking-spaces-outside-of-london-967 If you are interested then do get in touch. We are at the lugging furniture, sanding down and getting building repairs done stage right now. But is great to get started on keeping our talented entrepreneurs and freelancers in Weymouth! Maybe we should start a campaign #keepbusinessinweymouth.

Looking forward to 2018.
