An original project of WADT, Volunteer Centre Dorset, #HelpandKindness and Age UK NSW Dorset. It has been used by residents and visitors in Weymouth for two years now. It moved in May 2024 to share premises with the Dry Dock Community Pub in St Thomas Street. (Thanks Sam, Alan and crew) and the volunteers are supported by Volunteer Centre Dorset.
Here people of Weymouth, volunteers, help other people in the community access services and support. Those volunteers helped over 6,000 people in its first few month’s access information, advice and support.
- In a comfortable, safe space for young people, parents, carers, families, older adults and children where information, signposting or support can be given in an informal setting (and you can get a coffee or a non-alcoholic beverage alongside).
- Providing people Weymouth with information about local services and businesses. Leaflets, booklets and digital support on all sorts of topics from walking groups to Housing Advice to finding help with Home maintenance or cost of living.
- Signposting and facilitating access to community services e.g. Citizens Advice, First Point, Age UK, Food Banks, Tumbledown, etc.
- Helping people access local community support, before it gets too hard to cope.
- Helping people contact services and / or accompanying them to access support where needed
- Giving people a place to talk; air concerns, share ideas, and reflect on the needs and strengths of the community together.
- Enables people to give their time and skills to help others as volunteers (and have a rewarding and fun working together)
- Offer a front door to local voluntary and community sector services
